BSBDES501A- WINTER IN WAGGA WAGGA

Winter In Wagga Wagga

Report.

1. What kind of research should be done prior to deciding on the form your promotional piece will take? Where and how will you conduct this research?

The research that needs to be done prior to forming a promotional piece should be viewing other competitors in the same areas to explore the way they advertise. Collecting information can be achieved via the Internet or brochure/ fliers @ the information center, Wagga City Council. This allows you to see what works when creating a promotional piece for “Winter in Wagga Wagga”.

2. Why did you decide on this particular medium?

When researching all the mediums I decided to go with a DL size booklet in landscape. I felt that this would accommodate what was needed for the client. It was important to show “Winter in Wagga Wagga” at its best to make it appetizing to the customer. I wanted to promote different experiences that Wagga has to offer so it would create some appeal to a wide range of audiences. The booklet offers a Getaway, Romantic, Indulge and Family with suggestions on what can be seen in Wagga. This would be achieved with images supplied from Flickr, Information- Wagga info center and the Wagga City Council.

3. What resources will you require for developing your piece?

Printers guidelines

Body copy information

Logo style guide

Photographs- Flickr

4. Can you foresee any factors that may impact on your selection and use of resources?

Factors that had arise through the process of design where:

Quality of images

Sourcing information

Appling body copy to the size of the booklet

Printer’s quotes

5. What has been the feedback from colleagues about your design concept?

When forming the style guide for the first logo the response was medium. Issues that arise were the colour and the placement of type. When revisiting the logo for the booklet I had decided to make changes to the shape to make it appear more contemporary to suit the theme of the booklet. I came up with a snowflake in raindrops in a watermark form that carries through the whole booklet with soothing colour to marry with the images. I felt it was important to apply a script typeface. When colleagues viewed the new logo it was well received.

6. What are the benefits of exposing your design to quality checks and ongoing analysis?

The benefits to exposing your design to quality checks and ongoing analysis are seeing your designs in a different light. Which allows you to have an open mind to what other people think. They may also pick up arrears you might have overlooked. Interacting with your client is very important, as you will achieve a successful outcome.

7. How will your promotional piece assist in meeting the project’s intended outcome?

I believe that the DL booklet will assist the meetings of the project, as it can be placed in many venues e.g. information centers, travel agents, and cafes. Contently designed for customer to take away a little bit of Wagga with them as an inspiration to come and visit.

8. How could you encourage your client to allocate more in their budget for this project?

TO encourage my client to allocate more into their budget for this project would be explaining the benefits of promotions to outer Wagga customers. Have suggestion of up and coming event dates and to show what Wagga has to offer in a sophisticated way.

9. In what ways could you present your design concept to the client to entice them into going ahead with your project idea? How will you present the final piece to your client?

I think it is very important to show the client a mock-up of ideas of the logo and medium of which it might be placed on so you can discuss the benefits of you would like to put forward to them. Whether this is in a sketch form or a slideshow it shows that you and your client have an understanding of the design that is needed.

The "Export Adobe PDF" dialogue box will change to the "Marks and Bleeds" page.

  1. Make sure that the "Crop Marks" box is ticked (and ensure that NO OTHER PRINTERS MARKS ARE TICKED — ONLY THE CROP MARKS SHOULD HAVE A TICK).
  2. Ensure that the "Bleeds" are set at 3mm (and ensure that ALL the bleed boxes are set at 3mm).
  3. Click the "Export" button.

You now have a file that can be sent to your printing company and, given the text has been outlined and the file is in a PDF format, you can be confident that your file will be processed quickly.
